THE ORANGEVILLE BLUES AND JAZZ FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES MUCH-ANTICIPATED PERFORMER LINE-UP FOR 2016

The Orangeville Blues and Jazz Festival announced details today about the 14th annual Festival taking place this year from June 2nd to June 5th in downtown Orangeville.
Gary Brown, President of the Festival Board of Directors, and Larry Kurtz, Festival Founder and Artistic Director, welcomed an enthusiastic crowd of Festival insiders and supporters at the annual Festival Launch Event at Mill Creek Pub in Orangeville.
Festival President Gary Brown said, “On behalf of the Festival
and our thousands of attendees and hundreds of volunteers, we are deeply grateful for the funding and services that are generously provided to support the
Festival. This Festival has become a signature event for Orangeville and the surrounding region and with the generous support from our sponsors and funders, we are able to provide this high quality, multi-day musical experience for the public with FREE admission! We would like to thank all of our partners, sponsors and funders for their tremendous support and in particular, we would like to recognize Heritage Canada for providing $43,400 in funding to help showcase our outstanding local performers which has become such an important part of the Festival’s programming. In addition, we were thrilled to be recognized last week as one of the Top 100 festivals and events in Ontario for 2016 by Festivals & Events Ontario. This is our fifth year to receive this award and it is great honor for our Festival to recognized among some of the very best festivals and events in Ontario!
The Chair of the Orangeville Business Improvement Association, Joe Sammut said “I am pleased to announce on behalf of the members of the Orangeville Business Improvement Association that we will be providing $35,000 in funding to the Orangeville Blues and Jazz Festival for this year’s event. As one of the Festival’s largest contributors over the last ten years, Downtown Orangeville’s businesses and merchants welcome the economic activity this important Festival brings to our local business community. Our members consider this event to be the number one attraction for visitors in the area. As a local business owner, I am also pleased to join the Festival as a new sponsor this year.”
In announcing this year’s outstanding line-up of performers, Festival Founder and Artistic Director, Larry Kurtz, stated “We are excited to announce the area’s favourite FREE festival returns June 2nd – 5th 2016 to downtown Orangeville and features over 80 ACTS, 4 STAGES, and 25 VENUES over the course of four days”. This year, the Royal LePage Main Stage will feature the world/fusion blues of headliner Harper & Midwest Kind. Award-winning Australian singer/songwriter Peter D. Harper — known in the music world simply as “Harper” creates a heady mix of roots music through his creative use of the harmonica and the haunting drone of the didgeridoo. Some of Canada’s finest musicians from coast to coast will be featured including multi-award winners, Fathead, Paul James and Harrison Kennedy. 2016 Juno Award nominees Blackburn will headline the main stage on Friday night. There is an amazing lineup of powerful female performers including Susie Vinnick, Andria Simone, Heather Katz, Cecile Doo- Kingue’, Dione Taylor and Juno winner Diana Panton. International “must see” acts include Denise Reis from Brazil along with the Gabriel Palatchi Trio from Argentina.
The Opera House Series supported by new sponsors to the Festival, Mortgage Architects and Orangeville Insurance Services, takes place inside the beautifully renovated Orangeville Opera House featuring jazz and acoustic performances with free admission on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. This soft seat intimate venue with amazing sound acoustics is the perfect venue to enjoy performances by Michael Jerome Browne, Ray Bonneville, Alan Gerber and more. The lobby will feature an exhibit of Blues & Jazz themed artwork and photography.
The TD Tent Local Stars stage will showcase Delaney, The Firecats, Justin MacDonald, Soul Collective and many more not to be missed performances.
The Meridian Opening Gala will be held on June 2nd at the Best Western PLUS Orangeville Inn & Suites. Performers include international jazz singer Aura, the highly entertaining Big Rude Jake and a scorching set by the Jerome Godboo Band featuring Shawn Kellerman.
The ever popular Blues Cruise on Broadway sponsored by Dairy Queen, Ideal Supply and MacMaster Buick GMC is back on Friday June 3rd featuring 10 bands and over 300 classic cars! Saturday afternoon will feature Free Music Workshops in the Orangeville Public Library and the Blues & Bikes event on Mill Street sponsored by Barrie Harley Davidson. Throughout the weekend people can enjoy great live music in over 20 Restaurants, Pubs and Clubs around Orangeville.
Following last year’s overwhelming response, the Memorial Jazz March sponsored by Dods & McNair will be returning! The traditional New Orleans style funeral march represents a celebration of life and serves as memorial to our past volunteers who have passed on. This traditional musical sendoff symbolizes life’s journey and lifts the spirits. Everyone is invited to join the march starting from the main stage area and proceeding down Broadway.
